The club sponsors a number of events throughout the year, with most of them focusing on youth activities.
There is a Junior Wildlife Club for young people ages 8 through 16 which meets the third Thursday of every month and has different outdoor topics at each meeting. Examples include Fly Tying, Bird House Construction, tours of the Chahinkapa Zoo, Duck Calling demonstration and practice, trapping demonstrations, Indoor Archery shoot, Small Bore Rifle Shooting, Animal Track and Fur Identification and Trap and Skeet Shotgun shooting along with many other activities. For information, contact Cindie VanTassel at 218-643-4374.
The RRASC sponsors attendance to the North Dakota Wildlife Federation’s Youth Conservation Camp, ages 12 through 16 which is held at the Triangle Y Camp near Garrison.
There are a number of youth catch and release fishing contests in all seasons, with door prizes and awards for largest, smallest, number caught, youngest fisher-person and many other categories. The ice fishing derby held in February is co-sponsored by Heitkamp Construction. In May is the spring fishing derby held at the Kidder Recreation Area which includes a Casting Contest for those who want to try their skill at casting at a target. Both events are open free to youth up to the age of 18.
We also sponsor a youth pheasant and youth duck hunt, covering the cost of meals, shells and clay target for practice shooting prior to each hunt. The RRASC also sponsors a number of youth trap and skeet shooting teams at the local ranges. We would be interested in working with any youth oriented group on their outdoor activities or project.
We also run a Scholarship Program for youth interest in going to college in a wildlife or conservation field.
