A Red River Area Sportsmen’s Club meeting was held at the Wahpeton Community Center from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Greg Gerou, Vern Shasky, Randy Hoerer, Jerry Oren, Curt Mund, Brad Glarum, Becki Truesdell, Abby Heitkamp, Kelly Carlson, Mandy Steinberger, TJ Steinberger, Steve Truesdell, Cindie Van Tassel, Clarence (?), Justin Kratz, Rich Truesdell, Nathan Rausch and Mary Bostrom attended the meeting. Motion-Second-Carried (MSC) – (Jerry, Abby) to approve September 19, 2019 meeting minutes.

checks can also have electronic access (Greg G, Greg B, Wayne, Brad)

Smoker
- Early
Bird ticket sales end tonight (10/17/19)
- 34
guns, 7 of which are pistols
- Greg
G promoted the smoker during interviews with KBMW and Wahpeton Daily News
- Will
be using St. John’s kitchen
- Will
need help at the Community Center on Thursday, October 24th for
setup – everyone to come to the Community Center first, then will send kitchen
crew to St. John’s.
- ATM
will be available onsite, coming from Fargo
Junior Wildlife Club
- Air
rifles was tonight’s event; 14 youth attended
Club Contest Additions
- Justin
Kratz: mallard, green-wing teal, pin tail, gadwell, widgeon
- Reminder:
proposed waterfowl hunting contest will be determined by highest number of
species harvested.
Public Relations
- Zoo
Boo is Oct 30; volunteers needed
- Trunk
or Treat: possibility of co-oping with a local church – will depend on the
amount of candy left over after Zoo Boo
- Reminder
to send pics to Becky and Abby to post on Facebook and the club’s website
Red River Committee
- Shea
Truesdell’s Eagle Scout project consists of placing five benches along river
shoreline fishing areas. Benches have been placed. Brush was cleared to clean
up the path to the second fishing pier.
- The
Club has been requested to provide 5 names for the benches for
memorium/honoring.
Mooreton Pond
- All docks
have been pulled out of the pond – NE dock will need some work in the spring –
Del brought out a bobcat to pull the docks out
- T&G
Sanitation used a larger bobcat to pull the fishing pier out
- NE culvert
has been replaced – lake is starting to drain down
Minnesota
- DNR is
focusing on the upcoming deer season

will be set out at the Smoker
Other News
- SE
Sportsmen’s Club meets at south-side Lake Elsie American Legion Hall on
Tuesday, November 26th.
- No
scholarship applications have been received. Applications are available on the
Club’s website.
- KBMW
– Greg G has been attending
- Bowfishing
– Justin is researching different reel options
- ND
Game & Fish provided generic fishing pier sign logo for consideration.
Wayne will get them ordered for next spring.
- Mooreton
Sportsmens Club funds transfer – roofs to be replaced this weekend; then some
landscaping will be completed. RRASC will transfer funds once completed
- Youth
Pheasant hunt follow up: more volunteers/dogs than anticipated; in the future
will discuss whether or not a limit of volunteers is necessary.
- Hide/carcass
dumpsters will be setup at Blazer Express – T&G Sanitation will take care
of the dumpsters again this year – as of this meeting, airport dumpster placement
was pending approval by the airport
- Womens
Pheasant Hunt: looking at Nov 30 at JTs Sporting Clays for trap, then Chuck
Haus’s farm for hunt – event will include gun safety, gears, gun cleaning, etc –
looking for 13-15 women to participate – NWTF may also have funds available –
RMEF, Pheasants Forever, NDWF and others have expressed interest in sponsoring
– meal to be included, but pending schedule confirmation to determine which
meal(s) to be provided – 1 box of shells for clays and 1 box of shells for the
hunt will be included – 9 club guns are certified and available for use – event
will be free, but participant will have to provide license and transportation
- MSC
by Brad and Vern for RRASC to sponsor this event; no funding was requested at
this time
- NTWF
Banquet is scheduled for February 7, 2020.
