Richland County 4-H Shooting Sports has once again collaborated with the Wahpeton Parks & Recreation Department to provide a youth archery league using NASP equipment and guidelines, with affiliation to the Wahpeton Public Schools.
This will be our 13th year of programming in Wahpeton. The program is open to students in grades 3-12, however due to NASP Rule changes, preference will be given to those students in 4th-12th grade. Students in grade 3 must have a parent attend each session. Registration is limited to sixty (60) registrations; once the program is full a waiting list will be taken. Archers will be assigned to a time slot: 2-3 p.m. (Elementary, grades 4-5), 3-4 p.m. (Middle School, grades 6-8), and 4-5 p.m. (High School, grades 9-12). Sessions are limited to 20 archers. All sessions will be held at the Wahpeton Community Center, 304 5th Street South.

WHAT IS NASP?
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) was developed to serve specific educational and conservation purposes by the Kentucky Departments of Fish & Wildlife Resources and Department of Education and Mathews Archery in 2001. The program was launched in 21 Kentucky middle schools. The effort’s goal was to enroll 120 schools and teach target archery skills to 24,000 students each year. Kentucky gave itself three years to achieve this goal.
Within the program’s first year the 120-school goal was achieved and because of neighboring-state interest, “National” replaced “Kentucky” in the program’s name. NASP also expanded its participation standards to include students in grades 4-12. www.archeryintheschools.org
